Bhaja Buddhist Caves

These are amongst the oldest examples of rock-cut Buddhist architecture in the whole of India, dating back to the 2nd century BCE. There are 18 caves in total. The whole site has breathtaking views over the countryside & it was an incredibly atmospheric place to picnic! Our group more or less had the place to ourselves & we were able to snatch a sleep on the stone slab shelve-beds of cells that have served pilgrims & wayfarers for over 2000 years. Another amazing place!
