Kerala - Mattencherry - Dutch Palace

This is a photo taken of the outside of the palace beyond the former Raj's swimming pool - men only! There was an adjacent pool for the courtly ladies. It's similarly uninviting nowadays.
The outside of the palace does not look very impressive or inspiring & unfortunately we were not allowed to take photos of the interior, which houses the main attraction - some wonderful frescoes depicting scenes from the Ramayana, the Mahabharata, and the Puranic legends - all stories from Hindu mythology, covering nearly 1000 sq.ft in area. They date from the early 16th century through to the mid nineteenth century.
