Malaysia - Taiping

Taiping is a town of 200,000 people, 291 kms north of Kuala Lumpur, at the foot of Maxwell Hill. The majority of the local people are of Chinese origin, but its time as part of the British Empire has left its mark. Most people speak English, all signage is in English (all very helpful!) & the beautiful Lake Gardens were laid out by the British in a vast area that had originally been mined for tin - the attraction for the colonialists in the 1st place.

The setting & the views are just beautiful & we have every amenity available - the only slight let down is the flat in which we are living for our fortnight here in the not so appropriately named "Pearl Apartments". It's very basic indeed! However, we are grateful for the air conditioning unit in our room & for having our own en suite tub room (tub rather than bath), even if the running water is strictly cold only.
