Having re-arranged our flights twice, for one reason or another, we flew back to Scotland from Thailand at the end of June ready for a packed week. The main focus was to be our trip down to Liverpool to celebrate Steven's (Howard's son's)graduation & then we'd be jetting off again to Ecuador & the Galapagos for 6 weeks before returning once more for the birth of our grandchild – but things didn't quite go according to plan!

We did get to Liverpool , but ended up in the A&E department of the local hospital rather than the restaurant where we'd booked dinner. Howard was suffering from urine retention (i.e. he couldn't pee – yes, very uncomfortable, not to mention dangerous). A cathater, a tube & plastic bag were fitted that let us make it to the graduation ceremony, we're pleased to say. Not quite how we'd imagined things but we were grateful to be there! Once we'd limped back to Glasgow, Howard had another night in hospital where the cathater was thankfully removed, medication was prescribed & we considered what to do next! While the doctors did not positively forbid us to travel to South America, the possibility that Howard might require further medical attention if the medication didn't prove to be effective led them to advise that we would be best to stay in the vicinity of Western hospitals. The offer was made to teach us the trick of self-cathaterisation if we were determined to travel further afield – no doubt very useful but a case, we felt, where ignorance was definitely bliss! So we cancelled our flights, sent for the insurance forms & booked Ecuador & the Galapagos Islands for February of next year, ........... after we've been to Malaysia, Singapore, Australia, New Zealand & Hawaii. We're due to leave at the beginning of October, all being well. Hope springs eternal & the medicine is working so far!

Keep your fingers crossed!
