On the road - but not much time!

Hello from Boston! Reached states about 2 hours late due to the starter engine on plane not working! Didn't inspire confidence.... Starter engine also responsible for air conditioning so we were gently roasted to begin with. However arrived safely.

Stayed in Salem for a couple of nights. Thought it was beautiful notwithstanding witchy overload - too many broomsticks, pumpkins and pointy hats. Glad not to be there at Halloween.

Picked up RV in Rowley, Massachusetts. Howard managed to drive it out of depot without any hitches and after a visit to the Rowley Market Place (a hyper-hyper market, of course, sadly, with impossibly shiny fruit, but some organic thankfully) for provisions, drove to Salisbury Beach and manged to park it!! Now have mastered the art of the hook-up, including the desirability of having a do-nut ring for sewage disposal......

Our 29 footer is puny in comparism to the monsters parked alongside which then tow pick-up trucks the owners can't live without. Can't show photos since we forgot to bring the cable for our camera to Boston today.

Have spent 2 days in Boston following the freedom trail. Boston Common,Granary Burial ground,Omni Parker Hotel (where Ho Chi Min worked!!), 1st public school in U.S., Old City Hall, Old South Meeting House, FaneuilHall, Quincy Market Place, Charlestown NavalYard (took the ferry), USS Constitution, Charlestown, Bunker Hill, The Haymarket (great fruit & veg), Mass. State House (Holy Mackerel we saw the SacredCod!), Holocaust Memorial & Paul Revere's House. Interesting fact - P Revere charged the state for his famed night ride to Lexington - 6 hours of his time, hire of horse.....Today's tour was in torrential rain but weather has been fabulous until now. Heading for the train back to Salisbury now - did not think the RV would have been smart mode of transport in the city streets.

Leaves beginning to turn.................... Watch this space! heading for New Hampshire, Maine and New Brunswick next.

At last we are leaving......

Nearly everything is packed up at last - we hope there are no more discoveries of things we forgot to store! Every time we have thought that the last box has been packed, we have opened a drawer and found more stuff.... we don't want to leave any embarrassing revelations about our lives for our tenants to pass on to The News of the World! Our children might not let us come back!

Thank you to everyone for your good wishes. We have been wished so much luck that we almost feel nothing can go wrong - but after our SAS training, we know there are plenty of things that can and will go wrong. Don't worry, we'll let you know all the gory details.

Thank you, too, to everybody who sent us cards and gave us gifts.

We'll try and update this blog on a regular basis. If you want to know whether we actually manage to drive the monster RV out of the car park, watch this space.........

We hope you will all keep in touch - we don't want to miss any of the gossip. It's just the daily grind that we want to escape.
